● Piazzale Michelangelo for me it’s a love postcard from Florence, a magic place with a breathtaking view. ● The Uffizi Museum is the art temple par excellence. Visiting the Uffizi is always something special and exciting. My favourite painting is the Venus of Urbino by Tiziano. ● Visiting Villa Bardini in May is a unique experience. During this period the wisteria in bloom, combined with the city view, leave you speechless. ● Walking around the San Frediano neighbourhood and visiting all the artisans’ leather workshops is also a must. San Frediano is one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in the world.
Why should one choose your hotel
● Guests should choose Hotel Savoy, a Rocco Forte Hotel for its location, a few steps from Florence's main attractions. ● For the suites, which have an incredible view on the monuments. ● For its distinctive and detailed approach to service and for the possibility to taste and enjoy excellent Tuscan wines combined with an authentic Italian menu by Chef Fulvio Pierangelini.
What's new in your hotel
In 2018-2019 a lot of rooms have been refurbished. Spaces have been rearranged in order to give priority to bigger suites rather than small rooms. The fresh and soft-coloured design of the hotel offers tranquillity and peace to guests.
Inspiration to feel like a local in your city
● Mercato centrale is an indoor market situated in the centre of Florence. Here you can find different stalls full of typical tuscan food. You can either buy or taste tuscan specialties such as lampredotto, porchetta and trippa. ● Circolo dei canottieri is an historic sports association. It’s one of Italy’s oldest sports associations and it’s located under Ponte Vecchio. ● Visiting the historical buildings throughout Florence to learn more about Florence’s history. You can visit for example Palazzo Davanzati, Palazzo Strozzi, Palazzo Pitti and Palazzo Medici Riccardi. ● A ride on a vintage bicycle not only is fun, but will also make you feel like a true “Fiorentino”.
Favorite places in the hotel
Among my favourite places in the hotel there is for sure the dehor of the Irene Restaurant & Bar, designed by Pucci with a great view on Piazza della Repubblica. From here you can see historic bars like Gilli and breathe the atmosphere of the true Florence. I also love the Artist Suites: our special suites with amazing decorations that, combined with the view of Giotto and Brunelleschi’s architectural works, make you feel like you are immersed in art.
Where do you spend your day off
I enjoy spending my day off in nature, away from the chaos: having a field trip in Chianti and discovering new wineries and farms, while tasting local specialties. I love a quick escape from the city and strolling through the green lung of Italy, among the woods of Casentino, in the province of Arezzo.
Secret places in your city
Two great spots in the city which are less famous are: the Rasputin speakeasy, only open at night and where you can have really nice drinks, and Il Magazzino in Piazza della Passera, which is a typical Florentine tavern.
What’s new in your city
Florence is a city full of art. Among the news there are two great exhibitions: Anish Kapoor’s “Untrue Unreal” at Palazzo Strozzi and Robert Mapplethorpe’s “Beauty and Desire” at Museo Novecento.
Cultural events not to be missed
Guests should go see a match of “calcio fiorentino”: a sport with very ancient origins where players are dressed in clothes from the sixteenth century.
Christmas in Florence is something that you can’t miss: walking through the city streets you can see wonderful decorations, artist’s lights and Christmas windows.
Most interesting discoveries / experiences in your city
Guests should definitely take a stroll through the medieval streets of the city and lose themselves between art, luxury boutiques and artisans’ workshops to experience the combination of modernity and tradition.
